Yaatzil is a project assistant at Publica, where she works as a part of the team developing public realm strategies around the Oxford Street District.
Yaatzil has a Master’s in Narrative Environments from Central St Martins. Her diploma project focused on exploring different possibilities of instilling a new ethos of care for water in the public space. Realised through a series of installations forming a trail experience along Regent’s Canal, London, Yaatzil’s project provided a public platform to repair our relationship with water through a process of analysis, reflection, and appreciation in order to replant the way we consume it. Her diploma project was nominated for the Maison/0 Green Trail Award and the Climate Care Award for Spatial Practices.
Originally from Mexico, Yaatzil received her BA in Architecture from Universidad de las Américas Puebla. After graduation, she worked at several of Mexico’s leading practices, including Iñaki Echeverria and Materia Arquitectonica. While at the latter, she had the opportunity to lead two projects from concept design to technical development: The Water hotel and The QMM Cultural Centre.
In 2019, Yaatzil was shortlisted in the Paddington Connections competition, a project aimed to design an interactive wayfinding system for improving the public space navigation around Paddington Station. The project proposed a strategy consisting of a graphical-led narrative including colourful pathways, banners, interactive information boards and wall art interventions.
