Director of CIC and Research, Ellie Cosgrave, and Senior Urban Designer, Gaia Crocella, explored what safety in public space really means for women and girls in the first episode of Diverse Dialogues The Podcast with Kuljeet Sibia.
Titled ‘Safety Beyond Surveillance: Feminist Urbanism in Practice’ they examined how identity and power shape women’s experiences of public spaces.
Ellie and Gaia brought forward a powerful combination of research, data, and lived experience, sharing their expertise on gender-inclusive urban design and evidence-based methodologies. Together, they discussed the gap between design intent and lived reality, and why meaningful participation is essential for reimagining safer, more equitable spaces.
