“There is always meaning in place. Good design begins with listening – understanding what matters to people and to the context of what is being built. It starts with the story of a place: its character and identity, as well as the physical landscape, infrastructure and hydrology. Perhaps we begin with a playground, or with what we value most in terms of best design. This is not only about economic or societal challenges, but about respecting local identity, local value and civic amenity. This is where we should start.”
