Custom House Redevelopment Unanimously Approved
September 2025

Plans to restore and convert Custom House into a new 179-room hotel have been unanimously approved the City of London Corporation.
Publica devised a public realm and cultural placemaking strategy to support the site’s redevelopment into an inviting and inclusive visitor destination bringing vibrancy and culture to this important site on The Thames.
For the first time in generations, Londoners will be able to step inside Custom House’s historic interiors, while a newly opened quayside will unlock 160m of a previously inaccessible stretch of the Thames Path. This has been made possible through Publica’s redesign of a key pedestrian route and extensive floodplain management strategy.
The new hotel will play a major role in realising the Corporation’s ‘Destination City’ growth strategy, by inviting more people into the Square Mile.
