GRACE CATENACCIO SPEAKS AT LOCAL GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION’S ‘CREATING BETTER TOWNS’ MASTERCLASS
On 17th January, Publica Projects Director Grace Catenaccio presented at a masterclass organised by the Local Government Association (LGA) on the theme of ‘Creating Better Towns.’ With an audience of over 20 local authority officers and councillors from around the world, Grace spoke about Publica’s urban design methodology, which seeks to understand the constant flux of cities, towns and neighbourhoods through an evidence-based, multi-dimensional approach to the public realm.
In light of the decline of town centres and high streets, Grace spoke of the value of small interventions and incremental change in restoring these spaces to their full potential. She argued that understanding the interrelationship of use, movement and culture in urban design is fundamental to creating a strong public realm that responds to the complexity and uniqueness of place. One aspect of our role as urban designers is to draw out and celebrate the multiple perspectives that define our public realm in order to envision a better future for our town centres.
