Lucy Musgrave contributed to a discussion on the South Bank’s public realm investment needs, as part of a morning panel held at the Southbank Centre on 17 July 2018. The discussion, which was led by Professor Tony Travers, Director of LSE London and Chair of London Finance Commission, addressed aspects of capital investment, ongoing management and maintenance, and requirements around reinvestment. Other contributors included Andrew Travers, Chief Executive, London Borough of Lambeth, and Simon Pitkeathley, Board member of the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP) and CEO, Camden Town Unlimited and Euston Improvement Districts. Lisa Taylor, CEO Future of London facilitated the morning discussion.
Lucy discussed Publica’s work on the Waterloo and South Bank Public Realm Delivery Plan, which focuses on the streets and spaces between buildings that have the ability to transform the experience and perception of the city and enrich the quality of civic life. She spoke across a number of key strategic issues, including challenges around connectivity to cultural institutions and integration between neighbourhoods; designing spaces for users of all ages in ways that improve health and wellbeing; and strategies for helping local stakeholders and residents make informed decisions about how to prioritise investment.
