Publica commissioned for research for National Infrastructure Commission
Publica was commissioned to undertake two research studies for the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC)’s Design Task Force: a targeted sector review of the current attitudes and perceptions towards design in infrastructure planning and delivery, and the scoping and development of an approach to the first ever design principles for national infrastructure.
The National Infrastructure Commission established a Design Task Force to advise on how to put design at the heart of the country’s future infrastructure planning and ensure quality design in major infrastructure.
Our sector review involved a robust research methodology and both quantitative and qualitative analysis. The research findings confirm the Design Task Force’s early analysis of the key barriers to improving the quality of infrastructure design and expands on each of these barriers, providing a deeper insight into these issues. Publica concurrently produced a scoping report for the first design principles for national infrastructure, which included desk-based research, interviews and a workshop with leaders in the industry. Based on a thorough analysis of the findings of the research, the report sets out a summary of recommendations for developing design principles for national infrastructure. Read the full report here.
