RIGHT TO THE CITY SHORTLISTED IN THE PINEAPPLES 2026
January 2026

Right to the City has been shortlisted as a finalist in The Pineapples 2026 for Community Engagement.
Right to the City is a live action research programme led by Publica CIC that explores how women, girls, and non-binary people experience public space in the City of London after dark, and how their voices can shape safer, more inclusive urban environments where they feel they belong.
Right to the City engaged with 287 participants through four artist-led night walks, the Youth Design Challenge, and a celebration event held between March and July 2025. Grounded in feminist, creative participation, our engagement centred women’s, girls’ and non-binary people’s testimonies, affirmed their agency, and reframed safety not only as freedom from harm, but as the presence of joy, belonging and the power to shape urban life.

Project lead, Gaia Crocella, and Director of CIC and Research, Ellie Cosgrave will be presenting the project to the judges late February at the live-streamed Festival of Pineapples online event, free to watch with registration. Winners will be announced on 22nd April.
