RIGHT TO THE CITY: JOIN PUBLICA CIC FOR A SERIES OF ARTIST-LED Women’s NIGHT WALKS
January 2025
Publica CIC invites women and non-binary people who live, work, or visit the City of London to participate in a series of creative workshops exploring safety at night, as part of their Right to the City initiative. In collaboration with four artists, Louisa Tan, Belinda Zhawi, Clara Fran and Beth Allen, and María Venegas Rabá, we are hosting four sessions across the City throughout March.
JOIN US FOR:
5th March: Out After Dark
Observing The City and Defining Hopes
Aldersgate and Cripplegate
Create collage poster artworks using the streets and your experiences after dark as key inspiration with Louisa Tan. Collage is as a creative activity anyone can do, whatever their ability.
10th March: Soundscapes for Collective Reflection
Cripplegate
Transform familiar streets into a space of collective reflection through poetry with Belinda Zhawi. Together, you will create a sonic map of your experiences that could serve as an advocacy tool for policy makers and urban planners.
19th March: Let’s Go The Long Way Round
Reimagining the alley as a space of empowerment
Portsoken
Through colourful light projections, dance, movement and body expressions, you will transform the alleyway into a safe space of empowerment, belonging and expression with Clara Fran and Beth Allen.
24th March: The Nightwatch Carnival
A Performative Reclamation of Space
Cornhill
Design fictional characters embodying your hopes of how you want to experience public space after dark with María Venegas Rabá. You will parade your character through the streets, bravely reclaiming the public realm.
Last chance to apply: 11th February 2025
Right to the City is an initiative led by Publica in collaboration with the City of London local community, Ward Councillors, the NLA and the City of London Police.
The project seeks to understand women’s experiences of safety after dark, and create inclusive, healthy, and accessible public spaces where women, girls and gender diverse people feel like they belong.
Our workshops will shape an evidence-based capacity framework for City of London stakeholders to feel more knowledgeable about the women, girls and gender diverse people they serve, fostering a collective commitment to informed and meaningful action.
