Her, Their, Everywhere at Reimagine London, Powered by PechaKucha
October 2024
In the UK, 60% of men feel safe to be outside at night alone, but only 20% of women do. 74% of women report being subjected to unwanted sexual attention or sexist comments - yet 95% of sexual harassment experiences are unreported. This problem can no longer be ignored.
Publica CIC’s Senior Design Researcher, Gaia Crocella, and Urban Designer, Lou Elena Bouey, presented their transformative vision for London - Her, Their, Everywhere: Reclaiming The City As A Feminist Laboratory - at the NLA’s Reimagine London event, powered by PechaKucha.
Commended as the overall runner-up in the Reimagine London ideas competition in September, Publica CIC’s proposal seeks to reclaim the city as a feminist laboratory, where women girls and gender-diverse people feel their voices and experiences are prioritised, ensuring they are actively part of the solution.
The PechaKucha format provided an exciting platform for the CIC team to celebrate their bold and ambitious idea for the future of London, alongside other shortlisted ideas from the Reimagine London competition.
The PechaKucha (ペチャクチャ) format was devised in Tokyo in 2003 by English architect Mark Dytham. It has become a massive global celebration of design. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", the presentation format is based on the simple idea of 20 images, each shown in 20 seconds.
