Disability Campaigner And Advocate For Accessible Cities, James Lee Joins Publica As Director Of Cic: Access And Inclusion
March 2025
James Lee is joining Publica after eight years delivering social impact at City Bridge Foundation, in a variety of roles, leaving as Head of the Bridge Programme and Total Assets. At Publica he will oversee Publica’s Community Interest Company whilst Director, Dr Ellie Cosgrave is on maternity leave and will help further its Campaign for Inclusive Cities. James will also lead Publica’s new professional services on access inclusion, providing specialist advice across a range of projects and project stages.
James has been recognised by both the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 and the Diversity Power List as one of the most influential disabled people in the UK. He has extensive professional experience and achievements working with community groups at local, national and international levels, to which he adds his lived experience around race and disability. James was recently a member of the EDI Advisory Group for the Greater London Authority and currently serves as one of the Mayor’s Design Advocates.
“I am really excited to help deliver Publica's mission to make cities more inclusive, efficient, vibrant and safe and support the work of Publica CIC, led by the amazing Ellie Cosgrave. Our work is having real impact in UK and international cities and as an ambitious urban design team we are building exemplar public realm and infrastructure projects to demonstrate radical change in the built environment.” - James Lee
Publica’s CIC exists because it recognises the urgent need to address inequality in the public realm. It offers expertise on inclusive urban development, research, training and policy to local authorities, international city leaders, communities, charities and community organisations.
The first lens for our Campaign for Inclusive Cities has been to advocate for a public realm that is safer, more welcoming and accessible for women, girls and gender diverse people. With James we will focus on access inclusion as our second area of focus.
“We are delighted to be welcoming James to our team - his unparalleled expertise will help us take our inclusive cities programme to the next level. With James, we will continue to put practical actions behind our collective dream of cities that place the needs, realities and joy of the most marginalised at the heart of urban decision making.” - Dr Ellie Cosgrave
